Feature-packed with smart ideas and offering the widest shape in the entry-level segment, the Starts make learning to windsurf and planing in the footstraps easier than ever.
The Starts are 285 cm long to give these ultra-stable boards extra-glide and longitudinal traction in light winds.
With the longer length, the rockerline can be flattened which also allows the board to transition very gradually into planing mode – smoothly and easily, without the need to overcome an overwhelming power surge.
The original ultra-wide Start from 1999 was the board that changed windsurfing from a difficult sport to learn to a sport that could be learned in just 60 minutes.
Since the original design, many features have been added to make the Start the most technologically advanced entry-level board.
Integrated nose protector helps to protect the board against nose impacts from the mast.
Nose and tail carry handles allow the board to be carried easily by kids.
The contoured deck shape makes it easy to feel when your feet are in the correct position.
It also helps to keep the rider close to the board’s centre line: more stability, easier to progress and easier to learn planing windsurfing.
The color coded deck provides a visual aid, helping the rider get in the right position when uphauling or moving forward.

The Start’s tail is wider than any other entry-level board. This allows it to get planing earlier, at lower speeds and requiring less power.
The soft, full EVA deck is comfortable for your feet, knees and elbows. You get the grip without the rashes or the cuts.
The Starts come with a Drake Shallow 41 fin.
This compact fin delivers as much power and directional traction as possible in the shortest size. The ideal fin for learning.
Fitted with Starboard’s Clipperbox system with replaceable and ultra durable lips and a new daggerboard with integrated handle for carrying the board under-arm.
