PHANTOM RACE

ROCKET SCIENCE

The most successful, most popular and most advanced race boards. The Phantom Series dominate through sheer technological advantage, with their bat wings, slanted mast track concept and raised side walls.

Key features

PHANTOM 299

At 299cm long, the Phantom One is the compact version of the 377L, with more width and better planing performance. Recommended for direct sales to racing clubs and national associations. The Phantom One is built in Carbon with an all-white graphic design, combining high performance with maximum value.

Available in Carbon technology.

PHANTOM 377 AND 377L

Improved light wind performance compared to the previous generations: thicker to help to get on the rails quicker, avoid diving and staying over choppy water. The slanted mast track is placed 2 cm further back compared while the daggerboard is 2 cm further forwards, making the board more sensitive in light winds and to get it on the rail quicker. To get planing earlier, the bat wings are wider at 60cm by 3cm before getting narrower in the tail for more top end speed and a better feel of the fin.

The Phantom 377 L focus on light wind performance. It is thicker, with new mast track and daggerboard positions and a new outline. Recommended for sailors over 80 kg (175 lb).

Available in Carbon Reflex technology.

PROFILES

The Phantom 377 is 19.5 cm thick at its thickest point. The Phantom 299 is 3 cm thicker to compensate for the shorter length while still lifting early onto the rail. The new Phantom 377 L is 1 cm thicker than the Phantom 299. This helps the board to get onto its rails quicker while avoid nose dives and maintaining the nose over the chops.

BAT WINGS

All Phantoms feature the Starboard Bat Wings.
These Bat Wings offer a wide planing surface at high speeds with reduced drag and more lift at low speeds. This translates into earlier planing, improved upwind tracking, a wider wind range and the possibility to use larger fins.

WIDER BAT WINGS FOR THE 377 L

On the new Phantom 377 L, the Bat Wings are wider at 60 cm by 3 cm. They’re also narrower in the tail to get more top-end speed and a better feel of the fin. This helps to get planing earlier than before thanks to the wider planing surface at the front footstrap but because the wetted surface area behind the fin is smaller, it also increases top-end speed.

SLANTED MAST TRACK

The slanted adjustable mast track raises the front section to help the board get on its rail even earlier in light winds and sinks the back section below deck level to improve control in planing conditions.
On the Phantom 377 L, the mast track has been moved 2 cm further back. Combined with the daggerboard being moved forward by 2 cm, it helps make the board more sensitive in light winds and get on the rail quicker.

BOTTOM SHAPE

The flat Vee bottom shape of the Phantoms absorbs chop, improves tracking and helps the board roll onto its rail.

DRAKE READY TO RACE

The Phantom 299 is delivered with a high performance Drake Race 58 Ready to Race while the Phantom 377 and Phantom 377 L are supplied with the Drake Race 52 Ready to Race fins. They have an extremely quick and efficient foil with a near vertical rake angle that generates massive power for early planing, accelerations and deep angles.

DAGGERBOARD

As mentioned above, the daggerboard is placed 2 cm further forward on the Phantom 377 L to help make the board more sensitive in light winds. All Phantoms are supplied with a Drake Daggerboard 78 cm for optimum all-round performance.

DRAKE ULTRALIGHT MK.IV FOOTSTRAPS

The Phantoms are fitted with the next iteration of Drake UltraLight footstraps.
These hydrophobic footstraps weigh 99 grams dry, saving up to 232 grams dry and 676 grams when wet.
Two layers of Kevlar X-Ply monofilm replace the internal plastic strip to keep the footstrap comfortable, light and flexible and eliminate any stretch.

PHANTOM ONE – CARBON TECHNOLOGY

Ultralight weight at a reasonable price and using more environmentally friendly materials. The bottom is built in full T700 uni-directional flat-woven carbon for maximum stiffness while the deck is 60% carbon, alternating between uni-directional and bi-axial carbon layers for optimized flex. The composite sandwich layers include the use of ultra-high density PET and Armacell foam. The latter is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.

PHANTOM 377, 377L – CARBON REFLEX

Carbon Reflex is our flagship technology, built to be lightest and fastest.

The deck uses the lightest grade of biaxial carbon fibres orientated between 45 and 30 degrees for optimized flex and reflex characteristics. The bottom of the board uses 45 degrees biaxial carbon, as uni-directional carbon proved to be too stiff for longer raceboards.
