This new Apollo has thrown me. I so so tempted to loose my F159 and grab an Apollo for real light days (I was going to go with a F161) and to get my old Sonic 125 back (for my 9m in 10 knots plus).

In the SB Apollo page, you say planing in 2 knots less wind, I'd say that I can get my F159/11.9m & C3 Bravo 70cm going in 5 to 7 knots (meaning no less than 5k & no more than 7k winds) if I pump like a demon on very flat water, not fast planing, but planing never the less. Based on this, are you saying I should be planing on the Apollo in 3 to 5knots wind, cause if this is right, I'v got to get one asap.

Also, in say 7 or 8 knots wind, will an Apollo be faster or slower than a F159/F161?

Can you confirm the tail width and weight of the Apollo. Will it be priced as the F161 or slightly more?

Is the Apollo intended to be used in formula racing events, IE will see the likes of A. Albeau on one of these in super light venues?

Hi Mark h,

The Apollo is beter than the F 161 under 10 or 12 knots depend of your body weight. But over this limit the F161 is a lot beter.

You will get planing just under 6 knots not in 3 knots for sure. But we still continue to work, may be next year under 5.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 105kg so I guess the Apollo would be OK upto 15k. I'm still keen on switching to an Apollo. What are the tail width and board weights, there not mentioned on the site.

Remi,

For next year's Apollo, push the limit and lower the planning threshold as low as possible, dont restrict yourself to FW board limits and fin lenghts. If you guys can get the board to plane in 4-5 knots then you have a legit shot at the Olympics because planning sailing is windsurfing point of differeniation amongst sailing classes and helps us keep our place in the olympics. The FW class will adopt reforms that legitimately lower the planning threshold and increases the likelyhood of a planning race.

Still i think that it is also crucial the change the weight of the board somehow. A lightwind planning board needs to be light to do so. Maybe use new materials to see what the real benefits can be, take the Apollo concept out of the box and see where you can come up with. The board should be up to a max of 6 kg, is that realistic? Again not by the currently used materials and building methods but out of the box. Can it be done?

Maybe again hollow :D oeps better not have said that...... But you know what I'm trying to say. If only the F161 would have been build to only 6 kg max then it would certainly outperform the Appollo in the lightest winds also, yes?

Please give it all you have and give us a strong light planning board that is also very light to transport to the water.

We propose a change rule for the fin to be 75cm, but this will finaly be test during the folowing season in a trial organise by the Formula Windsurfing Class.

To increase the performances in light wind we definitely need a bigger fin. The Apollo is 84.5cm in the tail so abosulte no problems with 75cm. I try personaly all the Formula boards on the market right now and all of them work beter under 12 knots with a 75cm.

The plan is to propose a board that can replace the Rsx in 2012 in London. Yes it's possible to make a board under 7 kgs, but the cost will be not the same, and don't think that will be a good plan. If we would like to have chance to have a Formula in 2012, we must stay at the Rsx price for the all package.
