I'm planning on buying a 2006 Evo but I can't decide on which one.
I weigh about 83 kg and am 1.85 mtr
I plan to sail it with North Ice 4.7 and 4.2 on freshwater and Northsea
until i can use 4.7 I will sail my ST 104.
maybe in the future I will add a 5.3 wavesail to my quiver but for now 4.7 will be the biggest.
thanks for any suggestions

Not from the team, but own(ed) E80 (2005) & E74 (2006) and sailed E83, I way around 83 kg and predominantly sail at the (Dutch) Northsea. My advice would be E74 this will work with 4.2, 4.7 perfect a 5.3 would work fine as well. The only reason for getting the E83 would be if your planning on using the board mainly on lakes with gusty conditions (in this case you could use the extra float).

You're boarderline 74/83, and its hard to say which one is the best with the sparse info you're given us. What I can say is that at you're weight and for B&J useage the 83 will handle 4.2 pretty well and it has a faster rocker which is nicer for lake sailing than the 74. However, if you plan to ride wave, the 74 will be a better all round board for your sails. With a bit more fin, the 74 is still OK for the lake sailing and it will give you better control and a generally easier time in the north see waves.

I'm same weight as you and have been sailing EVOs, 70,74, 80, 80, 83 since the 2004 models. I use them on the Arabian Gulf and the Great Lakes in nearly every kind of conditions if there is enough wind. For 4.2 to 4.7 I use the 74. It is plenty fast enough for B/J and I prefer the smoother ride than I get from the 80 or 83 which I consider my lightwind boards that I use with a 5.8 or bigger. As soon as there is enough wind for a 5.4 I switch to the 74.

I have E74 ( 05 ) and E83 ( 06 ).
Like most of the other comments i would recommend the E83 for 5.8 to 5.3 and rarely with 4.7 when passing the break got no wind or gusty.
In those situation with high waves, the E83 is better to secure incertain wave scenarios.
E74 is perfect with 4.7, very good with 5.3 but need a little more wind to get on plane, the feeling is different from E83, much more like a skate and very free.
E83 is faster but less free, less soap-feel than the E74 on the top of the lip.
For jumping E74 is better regarding the control.
It really depend on the typical condition you have.
In the Cotentin i often have 15/20 knots with poor winf in the breaking swell, so the E83 is the queen on this type of conditions.
As soon as the wind goes 20knots E74 is more exiting.
