View Full Version : which Isonic 111/115 or 122/125

16th October 2006, 09:30 PM
I'm planning to buy an Isonic. I do have a starboard 155 formula (85cm) which I want to keep for early planing on big sails. I'm also planning to buy a 100 litre slalom, maybe an S-type 104.

But which Isonic should I get to change my mistral 125 MTX for? I'm 85-90 kgs, want to use it combined with 6.0/6.5- 7.5- 8.5/9.0 sails. The point is that I'm afraid having planing problems on the 111/115 in moderate 8 meter conditions, and the 122/125 being to much low-end and to close to my 155 formula.

Tips are very welcome, thnx already!

Hi Kvda

You mentioned a sail range from 6.0 - 9.0.

The Isonic 125/ 122 is what you want. You will be surprised how big range this board has. Best sail range is between 7.5-9.0, but you can use smaller if you want.

The low end on the 125/122 will be pretty close to your formula 155, and I think you would find yourself using this board (125/122) a lot. If you still have a 10.0 or 11.0 for really light wind days, then for sure the 155 is to prefer.

I presume that you will sail for 6.0/6.5 on your S-type (104). If you have this board, then go for the Isonic 125/122

thnx for your reply Jesper,

I know the range of the 125 is huge, but so is the range of the 115.

on second thoughts, the range must be from about 7.0- 9.0, because you're right Jesper, smaller sails can be used on the to-buy smaller board. But 115 can also carry a big 8 meter... its the volume of the board i'm doubting about, i've read the planing speeds of the 115 en the 125 are almost identical. but my spot is quite choppy, and also considering my weight, the 125 sounds a safer choice. but I've been told the 115 has a higher speedpotential

mmm difficult.

Hi Kvda

I have the 115 and 125/122, and yes they are all fast. In my opinion and this for competitions and just fun sailing I would chose to sail the 125/122 over the 115. This even in 7.7 conditions. The speed you can tweak out of the Isonic 125/122 is truly amazing. If you want to sail an 8.0 or slightly bigger then for sure go for the 125/122

I?m 87 kg so we are around the same weight. The 125/122 just seams to love choppy conditions so don?t be afraid of those conditions.

I doubt that the 115 would be much (if any) faster with your sail range 7.0-9.0

I jump from the 125/122 to the 101 Isonic and if really windy then the Isonic 87.

Hi Kvda,

Jesper and I do lot of testing together, he's totally full on and no one giving the other any slack. No question he's fully dialled on the boards and I agree fully with his comments for your situation - exactly the same suggestions from my side.

I'm definitely also 122/101/87 (50!).

If you're going to have a 100Lt slalom (iS101 or ST104 etc) then the larger iS 122 (125) for sure.

I would suggest 122 if you can over 125, not simply because it's a new board, rather the 101 and 122 are the two "magic" hotrods in the 2007 slalom line. No prizes to work out which sizes.;);)

OK, 3, if you count the 50. ;););)

Cheers ~ Ian
